What’s in the Cards at the Museo dei Tarocchi?
The Museo dei Tarocchi , or International Museum of Tarot Cards, is located in Bologna, Northern Italy. Highly recommended to all travelling tarot enthusiasts, the museum is in a local forested area, in a restored 17th century farmhouse. Visitors keep in mind, you have to make an appointment to view, and give them a few days notice!
The Tarot Museum
The museum was founded in 2007 by two artists, Morena Poltronieri and Ernesto Fazioli. From them:
The Tarot Museum, first in Italy and abroad, contains the largest collection of tarot cards in the world. We have correspondents in the United States, India, New Zealand and Denmark. We organize guided tours in the museum and in the territory. The originality of this Museum consists in being the first center, in Italy and abroad, that deals with the Tarot Art at the contemporary level. It intends to offer visitors the vision of unique collections of entire decks of Tarot, in original, made by Italian and foreign artists, operating through the most various techniques, from collage to sculpture, from painting to graphics, from video to performance to music.
There’s a lot to do at the museum: see guided exhibits, walk amongst a collection of tarot decks, or make your way to their extensive library where you can research, read, and learn more about the art of tarot.
The Museum Store can be accessed online, too: it’s not just a brick-and-mortar museum stop for visitors to Italy. Their books and decks are available from anywhere in the world.
More From the Museum
The Tarot Travel Guide to Italy is just one guide that can teach you more about the area and the art of Northern Italian tarot. If you dig around the museum’s website, you’ll find many more titles like this. Let’s admit that not everyone is ready or able to click over into their browser’s next tab to book a trip to Italy: okay fine, probably most. There is still good news: you can find a lot more from the museum on the internet. Check out their shop here
Publisher Mutus Liber releases unique tarot decks and books, some signed by the artists and writers: if you’re a collector far away from the museum, you can still visit the website to buy something unique!
